The Newsvine Team is proud to announce that Aine MacDermot and Mykola Bilokonsky have been selected to receive Newsvine's highest honor, the Random Act of Vineness Award - for contributions to this community that go far beyond the call of duty.
Aine MacDermot - for her continuing dedication to helping others around the Vine, and for creating and fostering the Newsvine Help Group.
Newsvine Help isn't the first instance of Aine's many good deeds, it is but the latest incarnation of it. Aine has offered a helping hand to Newsviners from all walks of life ever since her first keystroke here. She has been patient and has gone out of her way to make others feel at home. Her unending dedication to increasing the site's usefulness to others has earned her the highest distinction we're able to offer a Newsvine user. Her motivation for having fielded countless questions and concerns across the site has been the satisfaction that others are able to find their way in what has become a very useful, but sometimes complex array of features we've built over the past year. Aine seldom contacts us directly with questions, yet she figures things out quickly and helps others to understand what comes easily to her. As the recipient of the most votes of All-Time on Newsvine (27,695 and counting), Aine is perhaps our best example of a Newsvine user. She is courteous, helpful and extremely productive - having seeded 2,781 links and written 25 articles in less than a year. Bottom line: Aine = Newsvine Ambassador
Mykola Bilokonsky - for his inspiring idea to create Newsvine Groups, and for his hard work in founding and cultivating our healthiest example of this feature.
Some people make offhand feature requests in comment threads. Others take it a step further and send us a site suggestion via email. Mykola takes all of this to the highest possible level and creates entire movements around his ideas. One of his ideas is now an integral part of our culture here at Newsvine. Furthermore, developing Newsvine Groups has been the largest project we have worked on to date - and we're extremely proud to say that it began as a request from a user. We're sure that Myk would've preferred it if we'd stuck with his original name, Guilds, but we're confident that he's still very happy to see them implemented after the long wait. Even at times when it seemed that everyone else had lost interest in his pet project, Mykola stuck to his vision and continued a conversation with us about the development of Groups. Since launch, Groups have proved to be a powerful element to further Newsvine's mission of connecting people to each other for the purpose of mutual edification and enjoyment. We find it very fitting, as a result, that the healthiest group on the Vine is also a creation of Mykola's - Newsvine Community. With 235 members, this group is an ever-bubbling reflection of Mykola's insatiable appetite for study and improvement of Newsvine's greatest asset - it's users. We'd like to thank Mykola for his unending enthusiasm, his lasting commitment and his unparalleled creativity toward the Newsvine community, by awarding him the Random Act of Vineness.
Congratulations Mykola and Aine!
wow, I'm flabbergasted, guys, thanks. It's just what I always wanted, and just in time for my birthday. How thoughtful. :)
I know it's been a few weeks since I've made any outrageous feature suggestions, but as soon as I get the community group straightened out I'll think of something else to request. I really appreciate this, and congratulations to Aine as well who is really one of the cornerstones of both the community and the general principle of seeding stories/sharing news.
I just now stumbled across this via the Conversation Tracker... a bit late, eh? LOL
Anyway... my sincere thanks for this final branch on the Vineacity. I am humbled.
And... congratulations, Myk, well done!
LOL. The woman is always the last to know! ;)
Thank you for mentioning me Áine, and congratulations, you more than deserve this pixel reward ! (yes, that's an inside joke)
Thank you. *chuckling... I remember...*
Congrats both of you on your well deserved awards. You rock!
Congrats Myk and Aine!
More congrats! You are both naturals for the RAV. Thanks for all you've contributed!
Greatly deserved by both of you. I've admired Aine and her indefatigable patience and work ethic during my short time on Newsvine, and now I learn that Mykola, whose bluntness in comments I've always appreciated, was responsible for one this site's best features. Hip, hip, hooray.
Aine, what can I say? You are Lady Newsvine.
Mykola, we need to have breakfast again. You are amazing in your versatility.
I'll see your breakfast, Jerry, and raise you a newsvine meeting this spring - let's say April if the weather is nice, May if not. And perhaps a more local gathering some time before then - lemme know next time you're headed for columbus and we'll see if we can't catch Zaki and Stolte-Sawa and Corey and have a nice gathering of Ohio Newsviners.
We will do that. Will probably be May unless I come North sooner.
Yippie! Yahoo! Model your viney thingies for us! Woot! Woot! Congratulations to the both of you. Very cool!
Fully deserved. Very well done.
w00t!!! Congrats!!! Looks like Ohio's getting a ton of RAVers.
Ohio is quite the Newsvine State, isn't it?!
What's the cost of housing in Ohio?
;)
Careful, some Ohioans are expanding their area of influence. Was thinking about making a change of primary address but the new RAV convinces me to keep it in Ohio.
Oi !! Calm down or Áine will have you shifting to U.P. and it's *cold* up there!!
Can I just say *very well deserved* !!!
We Newsviners have all benefitted greatly from having these two thoughtful, helpful, caring viners in our midst. Thanks, both of you!
Ohio represent!
Seriously, congratulations to both of you, way to go!
Congrats guys, it's nice to see some of the earliest faces reaching the highest peak possible on the Vineacity chart.
It is nice to see some of our fellow private beta members get the RAV award. Congrats!
Congratulations Aine, Mykola.
Congrats, you two. Well deserved on both accounts.
(Myk, you're right, guilds sound so much better than groups)
Cyber steroidal femme and Rasputinek philosophic fossicker.
This table's getting interestinger. :)
Congrats both.
The next nomination should be for Forest who chose newsvine over a lobotomy a couple of weeks ago. Bless im.
Congratulations, Myk and Aine!
We're sure that Myk would've preferred it if we'd stuck with his original name, Guilds,
"Guilds" sounds like we should all have swords and wear chainmail. Hey...that would be cooler!
"Guilds" sounds like we should all have swords and wear chainmail. Hey...that would be cooler!
Hmmmm.... I can think of a place we could use some of that.
Trust me, participants will need more than chainmail to survive the next thing coming from the AoD.
*smirk*
Outstanding choices! Congratulations. This sends exactly the right message that Nurtures the Vine.
Well done guys!! You both deserve it!
Hey, congrats you two!
These were very good choices.
It sets the standard for the RAV way the heck up there where it ought to be.
Congratulations.
Congratulations to you both!
Congratulations, Mykola and Aine!
*...lifts glass, smiles...*
Congrats to both!
Myk- I'm getting a new lease in Columbus but not until Spring Term starts. I'm spending the Winter in Cincinnati...bleh :p
Hey Myk, when are you starting the support Guild for us RAV wanna-bes?
I will just add my congratulations to the pile. You guys had it coming for a long, long time. Everyone knows you keep this place sane...or interesting...or at least a place we all want to keep coming back to. God knows you were two of the first people I found who made me want to stick around. I am so very happy for you both!
Congratulations to Mykola and Aine.
I never knew who came up with the Groups idea until now! Good work, Mykola!
As for Aine, I've always thought of her as the Beer & Liquor Yooper Lady, but now that I've read about all her contributions to making Newsvine a better place for everyone, a Newsvine toast!
Well deserved, both of you!
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
