The Donald
Our two intern applicants. Though we liked the other fella's color, we chose Rob.
We'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the first Newsvine user to be hired by the company, Rob Goodlatte.
Goodlatte has been a Newsvine member since the alpha testing phase, and is joining us over the summer as an intern. It always helps to have a pair of outside eyes around the office, to offer perspective as a user. We look forward to having Rob around the office for the next several months. Please help us give him a warm welcome as the first Newsvine user-turned-staff.
Shoot, for a minute I thought I had been hired by Newsvine.
Yea, and I'm TIME's Person of the Year...
Damn, you guys successfully stole Immediate Mental Reactions #1 and #2. I don't have a #3. Curse you both.
Congratulations, Rob!
Can we Newsviners assign Rob some tasks?
1. 90 second comment edit.
Um, yeah. That's it for me.
Just dawned on me. I once had a green Hyundai that I really loved. I named it the Green Weenie. Makes me wonder. I just love the Newsvine Staff. Could we call the Newsvine Staffers "Green Weenies"?
Welcome, Rob, have a nice summer, fix the spell check if you can.
Could we call the Newsvine Staffers "Green Weenies"?
Negative.
How about:
The Green Machine
Whoa cool Rob ! Congrat's ! you came to the right town to make Good-latte's :-)
The Green Machine
If I remember correctly, the AMC Gremlin first came out in green....
AMC Gremlin Green ?
Congratulations!!!!!! Very cool.
Job #1 - You must tell the staff that if they ever have hair like Donald's...they're fired. :)
Job #2 - Have fun, but not too much!
Job #3 - You're the designated Toaster Strudel guy and must bring in fresh supplies every Monday morning. Tom will gratefully take possession (since he's the guy with the toaster on his desk!)
Congratulations, Rob.
Shhh! Don't tell them about the toaster strudelsI've been keeping them all for myself!
It always helps to have a pair of outside eyes around the office, tooffer perspective as a userfetch us coffee and pizza and pick up our dry cleaning.
I keed. Congrats!
That's cool and all -- but I'm going to have to ask that he stop getting into senseless fights, now that he's a respected employee.
Other than that -- congrats!
Yeah, I wondered how many flame wars he's been at the root of, when we flipped the switch and turned his comments green. :)
Don't listen to Brian, Rob, Senseless fights are 53.434% why newsvine is fun! Congrats man.
Hey! My pop up blocker just beeped and it was an ad from ad.doubleclick.net. What's up with that?
Spyware.
Rob, fix that.
Congratulations man, I have no idea if you earned it...but for the sake of Vinemanity, I'll assume so.
The Babel Fish puffed up his gills, his face went orange, a bright red light at the top of his gills illuminated the dull grey office, He open his mouth and said "Who's the Green Chick? , oh hrmm Yes, Going to the other side huh, best wishes" The Fish took a sip of Goop and then went to sleep
Alright Robbie! Congratulations!
congrats
do you get paid, or is having green comments compensation enough?
He is actually paying us for the privilege of having his comments green. Hmmm, I wonder if we should auction that capability off...
I'll give you my March earnings! :-P
Mike, how come December earnings were so high and nothing has really hit that mark since?
YepI'm rollin' in the green over here...
Myk, Christmas bonus ;-)
Mykola: We've found that overall traffic to Newsvine and overall monthly revenue don't track together at all (unfortunately). The great myth about advertising on the web is that you just build up a bunch of traffic, throw up some ads and you're always sold out of inventory. The reality is that ad campaigns take some effort to sell. When FM has a good selling month (like December), our sell through rate is great. Other months, sell-through can be under 50%... with the excess inventory being filled up by ads that don't bring in a ton of revenue at all. The same thing happens on Digg, ESPN, and just about every other site on the internet (that's why when you go to Digg, you see Google ads so often... it represents unsold inventory). December was a big advertising month for the entire industry, being holiday season and all, but we're getting back up to those levels now.
Congrats, Rob!
Now, my task for you is to start finding jobs for the rest of us. Thanks.
Hello Rob! Yay!! Bravo and congatulations to you :)
Although we have had little or no interaction on Newsvine, I send my best wishes for a great Summer internship your way. Have fun!
Congratulations, Rob!
Congrat's Rob, when your done fixing the vine, My washer needs fixing!!
Newsvine does not fix household appliances or wash windows. I think it's in the user agreement somewhere.
Congratulation! Don't forget the contenders.
The Green Gopher?
Great story..
Lots o'deletions. Weird for a thread like this.
Well anyway, welcome Rob, have fun.
When a user deletes is account (or has his account deleted) by default all comments from that user show up as deleted. (Not sure why that is, but it's a consistent behavior.)
