Random Act of Vineness: Shawn Gordon

The Newsvine team would like to recognize the exceptional work of Shawn Gordon, in independently compiling and publishing the first-ever Newsvine book: The Unofficial Vine.

Shawn took it upon himself to create a project whereby the Newsvine community nominated and voted on the top articles ever published to The Vine. The winning articles were then compiled by Mr. Gordon into a book and put up for sale on Blurb. All proceeds from the sale of the book are to be donated to the American Red Cross. Shawn also chronicled the entire project from his Newsvine column, as well as the accompanying Newsvine group.

You may preview The Unofficial Vine here.

For an in-depth wrap up of what went into the project, please visit Scott Butki's interview of Shawn Gordon.

Please join the Newsvine team in recognizing one of the most creative and compelling projects ever carried out on Newsvine by congratulating Shawn Gordon with us.

Congratulations, Shawn!

I bought a copy for my Dad, who doesn't use the web. He can finally read Newsvine! The only problem is, he asks me to comment for him on the articles.

I like it when people *discover* these on their own. It's like showing up at a big party, then realizing that it's for YOU.

One of these days I'm hoping it will be for ME.:)

I emailed Shawn and suggested he may want to take a look at blog's latest piece.

I think it's really cool you guys did this for Shawn because it had to be frustrating at times to do a Newsvine book but repeatedly note that it's not an official Newsvine book. Now he can say while its still not an official book he has an official RAV

I can testify from personal experience that that's the way to go. What a riot.

I have to say... I was pretty stunned when I checked Newsvine this morning and saw this... I really had no idea what to say, and spent the day trying to think of something (and getting nothing) - I was that surprised.

Well 'really good' might be an exaggeration... :P

Nice to see another one of these, and -- as I said when I wrote my article about your book -- it's good to see Newsvine holding off and giving them to people who really *do* go above and beyond.

    Congrats, man.

FWIW, I'm informed by a certain Newsvine staffer that use of the words "article" and "wrote" is confusing due to the fact taht I actually "seeded an article" on the topic.

I've no wiggle room and stand corrected - I just saw the article you seeded and I thank you for writing the suggestion for my nomination"

Nah, it's my fault. I said "article" in my first comment and forgot that it was a seed. (Probably because I wrote several comments.)

FWIW, whenever you get the keys to the RAV lounge and massage center, make sure to pull up on the handle when shutting the door on your way out, otherwise it doesn't lock properly.
